Dental emergencies can occur at any time due to unforeseen accidents. It is essential to visit an expert dentist at the earliest to avoid dental complications that can lead to tooth loss. Listed below are the most common dental emergencies.

Toothache

A toothache may be a sign of an abscessed tooth. It is a bacterial infection that causes pus to build up around the root of a tooth. This can cause extreme pain and pressure.

If you have a toothache, see your dentist as soon as possible. If your pain is severe, you may need a root canal. It is performed to remove the infection from the root of the tooth and prevent further damage.

Broken or Dislodged Teeth

A broken or dislodged tooth is a common dental emergency. A veneer, crown, filling, or tooth can become dislodged due to trauma or decay. People with a broken or dislodged tooth often experience severe tooth pain and sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures. You may also notice a jagged edge where the tooth used to be, and the area may be bleeding.

Objects Caught Between Teeth

Biting down on something hard is one of the most common dental emergencies. It can cause pain, injury, and damage. If this occurs, immediately rinse your mouth with water and apply a cold compress.

If you can, gently try to remove the object with dental floss. If you can’t remove it, go to an emergency dentist as soon as possible.

Lost Fillings or Crowns

A lost filling can cause pain when chewing or drinking hot or cold foods or drinks. A lost crown can cause pain when chewing or when air touches the tooth.

It can be painful and uncomfortable. Until you can be seen for a replacement, use sugarless gum to cover up the exposed area. Avoid hard foods or drinks like ice, which can further irritate the area.

Bleeding Gums

If your gums are bleeding, this could be a sign that you have gum disease. If you notice bleeding gums, you should visit your dentist right away. At the dentist, they will examine your gums and teeth, look for signs of gum disease and take X-rays. They will then recommend a treatment that is right for you.
